What happens when one of Master Chief’s cohorts is layed off? He starts a blog. The brainchild of my brother Brad, “Out Of Work Spartan” is a web series depicting the awkward transition for Spartan Z06 from active duty to domestic boredom.

I’ve been helping brainstorm episode content and advise on general editing etc. for the series, but my largest role has been the music man. Brad calls on me when he needs “quirky” music, a theme song or, as in the latest episode, a mock workout tape soundtrack (which could be the focal point for a future episode).

I’m really happy with the way the theme song turned out. Funny thing is, it’s like a total of five or six keys on the keyboard bent up and down with the pitch wheel and a drum pattern. It was so simple to make I feel guilty. Be sure to pay attention to the episode credits, because that’s when the horns come in.

Another interesting piece of music is the song I made for the live-action cut scenes in episode two. It’s a sample from a children’s aerobics record, but that’s not all, it was this weird, elevator music version of “The Girl From Ipanema.” The original is hilarious and will play in my mansion’s foyer someday.
